New hair styles?

Ok, since school is dangerously close to starting, I figured that it'd be a good time(or a little late) to start looking for a new hair style. Since...a long time ago, I've had shoulder length curly hair that was always in a pontail.(which equals a practically permanent kink). It's also fairly severely frizzy and it poofs out past my shoulders when I dry it with a blowdryer. It's mostly light brown but it's got some sporadic black and lighter hairs. I also have an annoyingly wide jaw that doesn't help picking hair styles. I'm going on a trip in a few weeks so it'd have to be something manageable and I don't have any money left(it was an expensive trip) to afford a curling iron or a straightening iron. Also, what would be a good hairstyle for a more formal occasion such as a dance or something(*sighs* I could probably get out of the dance though) Ok, enough rambling on my part! a great style is a side part with sweep bangs, then use a chi straightener with defrizzer. chi's reduce frizzness and after a routine of using it your hair will become less poofy.
