Does anybody know how to use hair styling wax?

I recently bought a jar of hair styling wax, and i have no clue how to use it. The look i'm going for is choppy layers. I already have the cut, and I flat iron it, it just needs texture. Techniques on how to apply it to my hair?Does anybody know how to use hair styling wax?
