Just how long you have to go in the back in ratio to the front is debatable. You can use as an example David Bowie during the Ziggy Stardust phase, Richard Dean Anderson as Mcguyver or Billy Ray Cyrus.

I know it's hard to tell in my photo but I too have a mullet,albeit with the longer sides of the girly variety.
It is a hair cut that is short on top and long at the back, usually supported by 'rednecks', especially those in the US. However, recently the fashion Mullet has been a 'in' style and has been supported by a lot of Lesbians, I don't really know why.
